April 13, 2010 – Recovering Car Market Delivers a Home Run for Palladium and Platinum

Featured Trades: (PALL), (PPLT)

3) Recovering Car Market Delivers a Home Run for Palladium and Platinum. My bet that recovering demand for autos would spill over into the catalytic converter metals certainly was a home run. It was clear to me last fall that with the average age of America’s 240 million car fleet at an all time high of 14 years, industry analysts were low balling their estimates of 2010 sales. Deferred consumption here was huge. My call to buy the new palladium ETF (PALL) (click here for the call) brought in a hefty 24% return, while the platinum futures (PPLT) scored an awesome 25% gain, while platinum delivered a 24% payday (click here for the call). Those who bought the platinum and palladium coins I recommended are also sitting pretty, and will be especially popular with the grandkids when they inherit them.  As long as the global financial markets are in risk accumulation mode, expect these to continue running.
